If you’re not able to take part in a big blog campaign right now, Medium is a worthy alternative. If you’re looking for a content marketing strategy that reaches more people, it’s also possible to submit your content there.

Quora is a question-and-answer site that lets anyone respond to users’ queries. Often, there are topics related to your niche, which could provide you with great content. One thing that could help you find these topics is by searching for questions other users have already answered on Quora (like this one I wrote about how to grow your blog).

On the other hand, if you’re more personal in your blog posts, you might want to post them on Instagram where that audience spends a lot of their time.

To attract your audience, it’s best to look for where your audience is and be present there. That could be other blogs, communities, or social platforms.

Forums and message boards for bloggers

Social media is a great way to get your ideas out there, but it isn’t always very effective at attracting attention. Sometimes it helps to build up an audience programmatically so you can use targeted messages and start having a conversation with the right people.

You can find communities online that will be of value to you. But those are usually ones that are specific to your interests or profession. You should try going through groups on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr first to see if they’re worth following.

Join a relevant Facebook group, LinkedIn forum, or Google search term to find people in your niche. Make sure that the audience members are already interested in your topic and you’ll be able to build up a following.

There are multiple Facebook groups you can join to find relevant community activities. You could also consider joining some of the other digital photography-related pages like Nikon’s DSLR Photography (1,200,000+ Canon Camera Users (450,000+ members) and Sony Cameras & Photography (32,000+ members)

If your blog is relevant to anyone with a DSLR camera, you’re sure to find enough people who’d be interested in reading your posts within those groups.

If your search doesn’t come up with any Facebook Groups that are with a decent number of members (5,000+), there are other options. Look for more general groups that relate to your niche on Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, or standalone forum websites.

Using an email newsletter to grow your blog audience

It is more effective to announce your blog writings to your previous followers in the early stages and not always pay attention to third parties. This ensures that their engagement with what you’re doing lasts longer.

You can build your email list by placing an easy signup form within your posts and/or across key pages on your site. I use ConvertKit to manage my email list of 150,000+ subscribers and I love it. My favorite feature is their upgrade options.

  • Get to know people in your niche. Aside from building a personal relationship, your blog’s readers want to hear from these influential individuals. And you can use these interviews for blog posts or for podcasts like the one I did with The Side Hustle Project.
  • You should start connecting with other bloggers in your niche to build relationships that could influence traffic and conversions. You can mention their blogs on your blog and then share quotes from them, as well as links to their blogs. And many online publications are always looking for interested readers who can help influence their coverage and what they share with the community. However, it is a good idea to email bloggers to show interest in their content and ask them if they would like you to share it with your audience.
  • Tell your friends and family about what you’re doing from the start. It might seem like a simple thing to do, but it can help build momentum and grow as you write.
  • One of the best ways to learn new things is to look at what other bloggers in your space are doing as I have compiled in my epic compilation of the best blogging advice. So you may not feel ready or have time to connect with other bloggers, but you might find that this compilation provides a good starting point for learning. Use the advice you’ve collected from other people in your field and see how you can apply it to your situations.

The only thing standing in the way of growing your blog is you. But it’ll take some ingenuity and willingness to try new things, but it’s worth the effort. Trust me, I’ve reinvented many times over the years and I’m still learning!
